Da Cruz Recreates Amakhosi System
Kaizer Chiefs are preparing for a drastic tactical shift ahead of the 2026/27 Betway Premiership campaign under newly appointed French head coach Fernando da Cruz. Tactical projections reveal that Da Cruz plans to implement a fluid 4-3-3 formation at Naturena, a system he exclusively utilized during his tenure as Technical Director for the Royal Moroccan Football Federation.
The structural modification is expected to breathe new energy into the squad, emphasizing quick ball rotation, distinct attacking width, and a hard-working midfield. Notably, homegrown star Mduduzi Shabalala is poised for a major positional conversion, shifting away from his traditional number ten playmaker duties into a deeper, advanced number eight role to transition play smoothly into the final third. New arrival Thabo Moloisane is set to anchor the defence alongside a returning Rushwin Dortley, while fit-again Nigerian international forward Etiosa Ighodaro is projected to spearhead the front three.
Upon arriving at Naturena, Da Cruz laid down the law regarding his strategic expectations. “I understand what this club stands for, its history and its future,” Da Cruz told his players during a July training session. “We need to create the new ambition for the club. It is a big team in Africa, and we want to win with a good attitude and mentality.” Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr echoed the excitement, stating, “His arrival marks the beginning of an exciting chapter for the Club, and we look forward to seeing his vision take shape.”
